What is included in your 5 Gallon equipment kits?

Everything you need to brew a batch of beer except a 5 gallon kettle, ingredients, strainer, and bottles. We do sell some equipment kits with a recipe (i.e. ingredients) included, find them here.

What is included in your ingredient kits?

Malts, hops, and priming sugar. We may also include spices in some kits (like this one). Some kits call for ingredients that are not included, like bourbon, vanilla or brown sugar. We will note what is not included on the recipe instruction sheet (like this one for our Bourbon Vanilla Porter) which is linked on every recipe page. Please double check what you might need before placing your order.

Do your ingredient kits come with yeast?

No - they do not. You will need to pick a yeast for your kit. We always include recommended yeasts on the kit page itself. Here's an example:

Are the grains in your kits pre-milled?

Yes - all grains in kits will be milled. We don't expect you to have your own mill if you order a kit. If you prefer to have your kit grains be unmilled, let us know in the special requests field on the checkout page.

How do I order my own Recipe?

Find the malts (or extracts), hops and yeast that you need and add them all to your cart. You can search through the menu (Ingredients) or use the search function to find something specific. Every malt, hop and yeast is tagged with a variety of sensory descriptors which can help you find a specific flavor profile. Use the filters on each collection page to search by descriptor. We've got a handy video that walks you through the whole process.

How do I order fractional amounts (i.e. 1/2 pound of grain)?

Order by the ounce! When selecting your grains make you sure you choose Ounces and then select the correct amount.

 Grain Size Options

There are 16 ounces in a pound. For example, a 1/2 pound equals 8 ounces of malt. If you need a specific amount, here's a chart that breaks it down by the ounce.

What are your milling options?

We offer three choices for grain milling: unmilled, milled, and double-milled. If you've got your own grain mill, select unmilled. Our regular milling option will be fine for most brewers. If you find that your BIAB setup gets better efficiency with a finer crush, select the Double-Milled Option.
